Falcon 9 Lights Up Monday Morning Sky

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral early Monday morning at 12:45 a.m. EDT carrying a commercial communication satellite for SES of Luxembourg.

This was the 11th launch for SpaceX during 2018.

The first stage had flown before -- in September 2017 -- so SpaceX had no intention of using it again and allowed it to simply fall into the Atlantic Ocean with no recovery attempt.

SpaceX hopes to fly two more Falcon 9 rockets from the Space Coast in June. Only one of the two, a cargo-delivery mission to the International Space Station, is officially booked on the Air Force-managed Eastern Range as of this writing.

That launch is targeted to fly Thursday, June 28 about 6:03 a.m. EDT.

Next Launch: Falcon 9 on June 28
