A top Democrat is backing Gina Haspel for CIA director. Calling it a difficult decision, Senator Mark Warner says he believes Haspel would stand up to the President if she is asked to do something illegal or immoral, "like a return to torture." The Virginia Democrat is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Warner's support all but ensures the acting director has the votes to be confirmed by the Senate. Haspel is a career CIA operative and manager and would be the first woman to head the agency.
