Corcoran Predicts Gun Bill Will Pass House  (Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida House members debated a bill yesterday focused on school safety that also raises the minimum age for anyone to buy a firearm. Some Republicans are expected to vote against the bill because of that restriction. House Speaker Richard Corcoran, though, tells the "Herald/Times" he believes the bill will pass today.

FSU, FAMU Students Hold Die-In At Capitol  (Tallahassee, FL) -- Some college students are making their voices heard, silently. Students from FSU and FAMU staged a die-in yesterday at the capitol rotunda. It took place as House lawmakers debated a bill that would allow some school employees to be armed. The protesters chanted "our children are dying" and one student held a sign comparing the NRA to the KKK.

Hillsborough County School Board Opposes Arming School Employees  (Tampa, FL) -- Hillsborough County schools want no part of a plan one student says would welcome more violence. The school board yesterday voted to not be part of a new program that would allow some school employees to be armed on campus. Board member Cindy Stuart introduced the bill because she says it's wrong to arm anyone other than law enforcement on campus. Superintendent Jeff Eakins says he'll send a letter to the governor and legislature formally declaring the district's position. THOSE IGNORANT OF THE REALITY CONTINUE TO SPEAK OUT.

Student Arrested For Threat Against School  (Cocoa, FL) -- A comment he made to get out of class is getting a Brevard County student into a lot of trouble. A 14-year-old at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School in Cocoa was charged this week for threatening to blow up the school. No bomb was found, and deputies say the boy made the comment to get out of his sixth-period class.

PTSD Bill Heads To Governor's Desk  (Tallahassee, FL) -- A bill is headed to the governor's desk which provides PTSD benefits for Florida first responders for the first time. Currently, worker's compensation benefits only cover physical injuries. This bill covers treatment for emotional duress caused by repeated exposure to horrific deaths.

Two Hurt In Edgewater Plane Crash  (Edgewater, FL) -- A woman is in critical condition after a plane crashed into a home in Volusia County. Asha Ramnarine was a passenger in a plane her brother, Amrit, was flying when it crashed yesterday morning in New Smyrna Beach on Roberts Lane. The single-engine Piper was approaching Massey Ranch Airpark in Edgewater for a landing when deputies say it clipped some trees. Amrit Ramnarine is in serious condition, but no one in the home was hurt.

Utah State Bar Apologizes For Email Containing Naked Woman  (Salt Lake City, UT) -- Apologies are being sent to every lawyer in Utah after a pic of a naked woman was sent to all of them. The inadvertent mistake happened earlier this week when the Utah State Bar launched an email about its annual state convention in St. George to all of its members, which is every attorney in the state. An image of a topless woman was also attached to the email and the bar's executive director issued an apology to all members after the image was discovered. AND ALL YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD TO DO TO GET IN WAS PASS THE BAR EXAM!  THAT INITIATION MUST BE TOUGH!  IT’S CALLED THE MATT LAUER HURDLE TO THE BAR!

Escaped Inmate Found As Result Of Crash  (Edinburgh, IN) -- An Indiana fugitive is back behind bars after decades on the run thanks to a car crash. The sheriff's office in Shelby County says Gary Burton was one of several inmates to escape from the Henryville Work Release Center at the young age of 24 in the early 1980s and managed to stay away from authorities for decades. That changed about a week ago when officers noticed something fishy about him while he was receiving treatment for a car accident. He's also now facing charges that include operating a vehicle while intoxicated and false informing. The escape charges stand as well.
