Gun Used in Shooting At Central Michigan Dorm Belonged to Suspect's Dad

The gun allegedly used by a 19-year-old college student to kill his two parents at a Central Michigan University dormitory was registered to the suspect's father police said at a Saturday morning press conference.

Authorities apprehended James Eric Davis Jr. early Saturday morning after someone spotted the suspect walking on train tracks just after midnight. A day-long intensive search for Davis had included more than 100 police officers, with many heavily armed and dressed in camouflage uniforms. During the search, police knocked on doors, and checked several places where Davis might be hiding in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood near campus.

Central Michigan University Police Chief Bill Yeagley identified the two people killed as Davis' mother, Diva Davis, and father, James Davis Sr, a part-time police officer in Bellwood, a suburb of Chicago. Bellwood's Police Chief Jiminez Allen praised Davis Sr.'s 20-year career with the department, saying his contributions had a positive impact on everyone he served and served with.

Friday morning's shooting occurred at Campbell Hall, just as parents were beginning to arrive to pick up their students for spring break. The campus was put on lockdown immediately after the shooting with people sheltering in place for hours until police could begin the "slow, methodical removal" of staff and students.

The family's youngest daughter posted a message on Twitter Friday afternoon saying, "Today i lost my parents..the only people that loved me unconditionally. I'm thankful for every single thing they've done for me...All i ask is for everyone to keep me an the rest of my family in your prays."
