After a day of discussion of the STOMP school security program it’s top of mind for all of Brevard.

It will take information, education and understanding as the community debates and the school board decides the issue.

The honest question is: just how do we best keep our schools, their employees and students safe when active shooters are possible anywhere?

People are passionate on both sides. Some want guns only in the hands of cops. Some teachers do not want to be armed.

The STOMP plan seems to meet both concerns. Only volunteer school employees will be in the program and they actually become members of the Sheriff’s Office for school incidents.

If folks would take a breath, listen to the information and understand the certification process for this program, I believe they will see the benefit…and that is keeping our schools, our kids, safe.
