Setting the Record Straight

IT WAS A NATURAL DISASTER, FOLKS

For me, one of the joys of shopping for Christmas gifts is the exhilaration of heading out in cold weather, moving from store to store looking for the gifts for those special folks in my life.  That may be a short lived tradition as the internet is still changing the world.  Could shopping malls disappear?  Will we now do most of our shopping from the confines of our homes?  I hope not!

We had a caller earlier in the week talking about the lifetime full pay and free insurance for members of congress when they retire.  It sounded wrong and always has, although given how congress works, it’s not that difficult to believe.   We set the record straight today as we look at how retirement benefits work for members of congress.

That $8m taxpayer gift to Blue Origin as an enticement to bring the company’s operations here is facing legal hurdles.  Cash incentives from the county are a bad idea.  It’s a worse idea when they plan to borrow the money to do it.  Didn’t Mitch Needelman run into problems trying this very thing?

State Representative Randy Fine has filed a bill that I’m just not seeing as necessary.  It’s about garbage pickup and cable service in the wake of a hurricane.  It seems to be an overreaction to issues post-Irma issues that in reality were not that bad.  Randy’s with us in our 8am hour and will kick it around.

We'll also check in with the Salvation Army's Lt. Carlos Rojas as their Kettle Drive is in full swing!
