The Politics of Politics

CAN WE BE CONSISTENT ON THIS?

Technology is amazing.  We are more connected than ever before.  And we are constantly seeking advances that enhance not only communication, but every aspect of our lives.  Several such advancements are being sought in transportation.  Whether it’s fuels or driving itself, we seek a better way.  And there will be blips along the way and once such blip happened in Las Vegas’ first foray into driverless public transportation.  Maybe this technology, like electric cars, is not quite ready for prime time!

The main stream press has lost its way in many ways.  Cable news shows become platforms for political opinion as opposed to actual news and it’s fine if opinion is what we seek, but what if it’s about more.  CNN has crossed the lines several times; one has major local and financial implications.  Is this their job?  And while we ask that, what are we asking of our cops today?  I’m pretty sure it’s not what a pair of officers dealt with on a “routine” traffic stop.

Given the human violence in our society today it’s no wonder the Second Amendment is under attack.  A former cop and community columnist for Florida Today adds his voice to the mix and it made me wonder about using the same logic in regard to the Second Amendment.

The County Commission will see change in the next election cycle as Jim Barfield will not seek a second term.  The District 2 Commissioner’s business has landed a major contract that will require his time.  The race to replace him is already on.

As we consider politics, we’ll talk with Nicole James in our 8am hour.  The Eastern Florida State College Political Science instructor writes about her job and the future of government in her latest column.  We’ll talk the current environment and what the future may hold.
