DeSantis Discusses Redistricting

(Lake Worth Beach, FL) --South Florida may be at the center of a redistricting fight. Governor Ron DeSantis talked yesterday in Palm Beach County about doing a mid-decade redistricting. He thinks Republicans could pick up seats in South Florida, and he appears to be targeting congressional districts held by Democrats. The current map was drawn up just three years ago. It includes 28 districts with 20 held by Republicans. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried accuses DeSantis of an unethical power grab. She says Floridians deserve leaders focused on lowering costs, strengthening schools and protecting freedoms.   

Drone Delivery Leads To Arrest In Hillsborough Co.

(Lutz, FL) -- A high-flying drug delivery goes off course in Hillsborough County.  A drone packed with narcotics slammed into a house in Lutz, causing the alleged owner to knock on the front door and ask for it back. The homeowners called 9-1-1 and turned the drone, plus multiple bags of meth and fentanyl, in to officers. Jason Brooks was arrested on several charges, including possession with intent to sell and an outstanding warrant from Pasco County.

Child Molester Gets Life In Prison

(Viera, FL) -- A Brevard County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for molesting a child. State Attorney Will Scheiner's Office announced yesterday Titusville's Kristiane Calero was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday. The 44-year-old was convicted two months ago of sexual battery. Prosecutors say the victim was a seven-year-old family member who was abused dozens of times. Calero is also accused of having sex with an 11-year-old babysitter in a separate case.

Wife Accused Of Running Over Husband In Brevard County

(Cocoa, FL) -- A woman is accused of trying to kill her husband in Brevard County. Dugblis Jimenez was in court yesterday after she was arrested Tuesday in Cocoa. Cocoa Police say she hit Hemer Ontiveros with a car and drove down SR 520 while he was clinging to the hood. At some point, police say he fell off, and Jimenez ran over him. Ontiveros was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Jimenez is facing charges that include attempted second-degree murder. She's due back in court next month.       

Brevard County Woman Indicted For Death Of Child

(Titusville, FL)-- A Brevard County woman is accused of killing her child. Belle Winter was indicted recently for the death of her two-month-old son four years ago in Merritt Island. Winter is charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse. Her husband was arrested two months ago on the same charges. The medical examiner says the baby died of multiple head injuries. Investigators believe Winter's husband is the one responsible. Both are being held without bond in the Brevard County Jail.    

HillsCo Commission To Explore Complaints About Pickleball

(Tampa, FL) -- Pickleball is proving to be a divisive topic in Hillsborough County. The county commission voted yesterday to explore complaints some residents have about the sport. Pickleball is considered the country's fastest-growing sport, but critics complain about the noise. A plan to add courts at one complex in Apollo Beach has led to a lawsuit by residents. Some veterans say the noise triggers their PTSD. County Commissioner Joshua Wostal is also worried about the noise. He says the decibel levels sometimes exceed county limits. Commissioner Ken Hagen tells 10 Tampa Bay state law may limit what the county can do, but he fully supports anything that can provide relief.
