Flights Canceled At FLL Due To Air Canada Strike
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- An airline strike is affecting travelers in Broward County. Air Canada canceled flights yesterday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Industry analysts say about 100 thousand people have had flights canceled worldwide since flight attendants went on strike Saturday. One man at FLL tells Local 10 News the airline should be liable to find passengers some way home. Air Canada has said it hopes flights will resume tonight.
Pasco County Man Scammed In Search For Romance
(Port Richey, FL) -- A Pasco County man's story could serve as a warning for those looking for love online. Port Richey's David Cruz befriended what he thought was a woman named Bonnie from Indiana. It started with them exchanging messages and then video chats. Cruz didn't realize it at the time, but those video chats were the work of artificial intelligence. Eventually, Bonnie asked Cruz for money, and he sent her over 45 thousand dollars. Cruz got suspicious when she asked for more money, and he contacted the sheriff's office. Investigators found Cruz fell for a scam based in Nigeria.
Air Taxis Closer To Becoming Reality In St. Petersburg
(St. Petersburg, FL) --Advanced Air Mobility Taskforce chair Ed Montanari says air vehicles are coming closer to reality in St. Petersburg. The electric air vehicles would operate out of Albert Whitted Airport to St. Pete-Clearwater Airport or Tampa International Airport. Air taxis could be used to transport people, medical supplies and cargo. The Taskforce will update city officials on its progress at its next meeting in November.
Home Depot Objects To Deport Depot Branding
(Tallahassee, FL)-- The Republican Party of Florida is changing its plans after Home Depot objected to a recent line of merchandise. The state GOP was selling items labeled The Deport Depot. Deport Depot is what the immigration detention center planned for Baker County is going to be called. The design on the merch, though, was similar to the Home Depot's, and the company took notice. Two days later, the Republican Party removed the baseball caps, t-shirts and mugs it was trying to sell. A Home Depot spokeswoman tells the Washington Post it did not approve use of its branding or logo.
Ukrainians Reportedly Break Sniper Record
(Pokrovsk, Ukraine)-- A Ukranian sniper unit reportedly now holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, near two-and-a-half miles or 13-thousand feet. The shot fired this past Thursday, assisted by artificial intelligence and drone guidance, killed two Russian soldiers, according to a report in the Kyiv Post. The previous record also belonged to a Ukrainian sniper at around 12-thousand-400 feet.
