Tornado Touches Down In Osceola County
(Kissimmee, FL) --A tornado appears to have touched down in Osceola County. It did so around quarter-past-seven last night near Pine Grove near Nova Road. News 6 reports it was on the ground for about eight minutes. No damage was reported.
Protest Held Over Orange County's Work With ICE
(Orlando, FL) --Protests are expected at today's Orange County commission meeting. A rally was held yesterday in Orlando to protest Mayor Jerry Demings' decision to work with ICE on transporting immigrant detainees to federal facilities. Demings and the commission originally voted against the arrangement. On Friday, though, Demings changed his mind and signed the deal. He says the governor threatened to suspend him and the entire commission. State Rep. Anna Eskamani was at the protest on Rosalind Ave , and she plans to be at today's commission meeting where the agreement could be ratified. She tells the Orlando Sentinel we need to have a collective force of opposition to this agreement and demand more for our immigrant community members.
Person Found Dead In Burning Car In Miami-Dade County
(Miami, FL) --An investigation is underway after someone was found dead in a burning car in Miami-Dade County. The sheriff's office says the body was found last night in a car in a Walmart parking lot in the area of Southwest 136th Ave and 288th Street. Deputies have not revealed who the person is or how the fire started.
Denmark Zoo Seeks Unwanted Pets To Feed To Enclosed Predators
(Aalborg, Denmark) -- Officials at a zoo in Denmark are asking for unwanted pets as donations to help feed their enclosed predators. Staffers say the practice mirrors the natural food chain. Donated pets such as healthy horses, chickens and other small animals will be "gently euthanized" before feeding time. The request was posted to Facebook last Thursday.
Cop Uses Bare Hands To Wrangle Alligator
(St. Augustine, FL) -- A Florida deputy is being praised for his brave removal of an alligator from a swimming pool. Body camera footage shared by St. Johns County Sheriff's Office captured the moment Deputy Richardson initially attempted to capture the alligator with a net before resorting to using his hands to pull the reptile out of the water. The incident occurred in St. Augustine, where residents discovered the gator enjoying a swim in their backyard pool. The alligator, who was described as "super mad," was safely relocated to a nearby pond after being transported in the back of a patrol car.
