Shooting In Volusia County
(Deltona, FL) -- A search is underway to find a man considered armed and dangerous. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says Thomas Calderon shot a man yesterday morning in Deltona. Deputies say the two were arguing when Calderon shot the man in the abdominal area. The man was taken to the hospital, and he's in critical but stable condition. Calderon is wanted for attempted second-degree murder. He's believed to be in Seminole County in the Sanford area. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
Federal Government Pauses Education Funds
(Tampa, FL) -- Schools across Tampa Bay will have to wait for some money they were expecting. The US Department of Education announced Monday it was freezing almost seven billion dollars in federal education grants. Florida is due to receive almost 400 million dollars of that money. School districts were expecting to get the money yesterday. There's no word on how long it'll be before the money is released. A Florida Department of Education spokesperson tells the Tampa Bay Times the department is committed to working with each school district to minimize any impact to Florida's students.
Work To Start On Tropicana Field Roof
(St. Petersburg, FL)-- It looks like work could be starting on the Tropicana Field roof. Fencing has been installed around the stadium in St. Petersburg, and work crews were at the site yesterday to check for voids under the sidewalk. A city spokeswoman says work on the roof will start next month and could be done by the end of the year. Work inside the stadium is expected to last into April 2026. The stadium should be ready for Opening Day. Mayor Ken Welch tells 10 Tampa Bay they look forward to the Tampa Bay Rays returning to St. Pete next year after repairs to Tropicana Field are complete.
Law Enforcement Investigating After Girl Went Overboard On Cruise Ship
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Some new details are out on a dramatic rescue at sea. The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating what happened on a Disney cruise ship on Sunday. A five-year-old girl on the Disney Dream fell overboard from Deck Four, and her father jumped in to save her. Crew members wound up rescuing both. Deputies said yesterday the girl was not being held when she fell, and she was not sitting on the ledge. The deck has a protective barrier, but a passenger tells CBS News Miami a crew member told her the girl climbed up it while her parents were playing shuffleboard. The BSO says there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious, but it's still investigating the circumstances.
Suge Knight Says Tupac's Ashes Were Smoked After '96 Death
(San Diego, CA)-- The former CEO of Death Row Records says Tupac Shakur's friends smoked his ashes after he died. Marion "Suge" [[ Shuug ]] Knight is currently serving 28 years in a San Diego prison for a fatal hit-and-run. In a new interview with "People" magazine, Knight gives details about the death of the rapper, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996.Knight says Tupac's mother wanted his remains to be cremated immediately, and that after the cremation some of Shakur's closest friends and family rolled his ashes into a blunt and smoked it. Knight says he passed on it because he was on probation.
