US Conference Of Mayors Held In Tampa
(Tampa, FL) --Mayors from across the country are uniting in Tampa to send a message to the White House. Tampa is hosting the 93rd annual US Conference of Mayors. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor says this allows her and others to discuss common concerns, like immigration enforcement. They're expecting to pass a resolution that would urge federal officials to give local officials advance notice of any planned ICE action. The mayors are also discussing disaster relief. Oklahoma City's mayor tells 10 Tampa Bay federal financial support for disasters has become unpredictable, and respect for local control is sporadic.
State Senator Collins In Middle East Helping Americans Evacuate
(Tampa, FL) -- An elected official from Hillsborough County is helping Americans get out of Israel. State Senator Jay Collins is in Jordan to facilitate evacuations. He estimates there are more than 5-thousand people waiting to come home. Collins is traveling in and out of Israel to coordinate flights to the US. He tells ABC Action News "I know unequivocally this is the right thing to do."
Officer Who Shot Man To Death Has History Of Deadly Shootings
(Miami, FL) -- A deputy who shot a man to death in Miami-Dade County has a history of deadly shootings. Deputy Kelvin Cox shot and killed Kristofer Lazaro Laboy on Tuesday. The sheriff's office says Cox tried to pull over Laboy for an illegal window tint, but Laboy refused to stop. Cox followed Laboy to an apartment complex where, according to deputies, Laboy got out of the car with a gun and was shot. This is the third deadly shooting Deputy Cox has been involved with in 23 years with the MDSO. He shot and killed a robbery suspect 15 years ago, and a year later, he shot and killed a man wanted for stealing a car. Cox wasn't charged in either case. No charges have been filed in Tuesday's incident, but the FDLE is investigating.
