Tornado Cleanup Continues In Seminole County

(Longwood, FL) --Seminole County residents are being asked to do their part to help cleanup efforts after the recent tornado. Emergency Management Director Alan Harris said yesterday progress is being made in clearing debris from last week's EF-2. He says he expects debris pickup in Longwood should be done by the end of the month. Harris also tells Channel 9 cleanup could move even faster if residents would remember to separate vegetative debris from construction debris.     

Former GOP Treasurer Won't Face Theft Charges

(Tampa, FL) -- A former Republican Party official accused of theft won't face charges. The state attorney's office has decided not to file charges against Patrick Bailey. He was arrested in December for allegedly stealing over 14-thousand dollars from the Hillsborough County Republican Party where he worked as treasurer. Bailey has since paid restitution, and the charges have been dropped. A court spokesperson tells 10 Tampa Bay a top priority in economic crimes is making victims whole, and the goal is always to recover stolen funds to deliver justice to victims.  

Miami-Dade Tax Collector Uncovers Network Of Appointment Scalpers

(Miami, FL) -- Those trying to book a driver's license appointment in Miami-Dade County may be victims of appointment scalpers. The county tax collector's office announced yesterday it has uncovered a network of people hoarding free driver's license appointments and selling them for a profit. Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez says he's working with law enforcement to put an end to this fraudulent and exploitative activity. 7News reports driving schools are booking the appointments and selling them for hundreds of dollars. 

Woman Accused Of Holding Baby During Robberies

(Memphis, TN) -- A woman is accused of holding a baby during three separate robberies in Memphis. WMC-TV reports Arneshia Taylor is accused of holding the child in her arms when she pulled a gun on employees at a Kroger, a dollar store and a SuperLo. She's facing charges of aggravated assault, child endangerment, and theft of property. Taylor has been released on her own recognizance.

March Madness And Its Impact On The Economy

(Undated) -- March Madness begins this week and with it comes the potential for the economy to lose billions of dollars. That's according to a recent survey by sports betting and media brand Action Network that predicts March Madness could cause the U.S. economy to see roughly 20 billion dollars in "lost productivity." That lost productivity can come in a number of forms, from simply being distracted while on the clock to the 40 percent of survey respondents who admit to calling in sick to watch a game.
