(Melbourne, FL) --There's a high risk of fire across Central Florida today. The National Weather Service has a Fire Weather Watch that'll be in effect this afternoon through tonight. Winds are expected to reach 20 miles an hour with gusts up to 30 miles an hour. Relative humidity could be as low as 25 percent. The NWS warns any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Miami Beach Restrictions Make For 'Boring' Spring Break
(Miami Beach, FL)-- Some Spring Breakers may be having second thoughts about visiting Miami Beach. They apparently didn't get the memo that the city is trying to shed its reputation as a party destination. A woman from Orlando says there are too many police around, and they're stopping the fun. Another Spring Breaker says it's boring. Police say arrests are down compared to last year. One resident tells Local 10 News there's no point in coming to Miami for Spring Break.
Four Women Arrested For Beating Man In Tallahassee
(Tallahassee, FL)-- Four women are facing charges after a man was beaten in Tallahassee. It happened yesterday morning outside Pockets Pool and Pub on Sharer Road. Tallahassee Police say two women beat the man with a baseball bat, one woman stabbed him and another woman punched him. He was taken to the hospital, and the TPD says he's in stable condition. One woman is charged with attempted murder. One is charged with battery, and two are charged with aggravated battery. There's no word on a motive.
Man Arrested After Stealing Ambulance
(Tampa, FL) -- A man is in custody after he allegedly stole an ambulance and led troopers on a chase in Tampa. FHP says Michael Esquilin stole a Tampa Fire Rescue ambulance Saturday night from HCA South Tampa Hospital. Troopers tried pulling him over, but he kept going. According to FHP, Esquilin drove through several stop signs, drove the wrong way and almost hit several cars. FHP says when he finally came to a stop, he drank a beer in front of the troopers and told them he had been drinking for two days. Esquilin also allegedly told them he stole the ambulance because paramedics wouldn't give him a ride home in it. Esquilin is facing charges that include grand theft of an emergency vehicle, DUI and driving with a suspended license.
Gators Get One-Seed In NCAA Tournament
(Gainesville, FL)-- The Gators will be Florida's lone school in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The University of Florida was awarded a one-seed in the West Region. They'll open play Friday night at 6:50 against 16-seed Norfolk State in Raleigh, North Carolina. No other Florida schools made the tournament. This is the third time UF has been a one-seed. In 2007, they won the national title, and in 2014, they made it to the Final Four.
L.A. County Jury Awards Man $50M In Starbucks Hot Tea Suit
(Los Angeles County,CA) -- A Los Angeles County jury is ordering Starbucks pay a local resident 50-million dollars. This after the man was severely burned by a tray of hot teas he bought at the coffee shop. The man filed a lawsuit against the company in the wake of the incident, alleging it was negligence that caused the tray to collapse, spilling the drinks. Starbucks plans to appeal the verdict.
SpaceX To Send Starship To Mars Next Year, Musk Confirms
(Undated) -- Elon Musk says SpaceX's starship will go to Mars at the end of 2026. Aboard the ship will be Optimus, Tesla's humanoid robot. Along with the Mars announcement, the billionaire said that, "if those landings go well, then human landings may start as soon as 2029, although 2031 is more likely."
