DeSantis Highlights Achievements Of Florida State Guard
(Starke, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis is showing his support for the Florida State Guard. The governor was in Bradford County where he highlighted the force's achievements since it was reestablished in 2022. The number of soldiers on the State Guard will increase to eight-hundred after the next class graduates next week. DeSantis believes the high training demand shows that people have pride in the Free State of Florida. He says the goal is to continue to expand the organization in order to respond to state emergencies and public safety needs.
Second Nurse Attacked At Florida Hospital This Month
(Vero Beach, FL) -- A nurse is recovering following an attack at a hospital on Florida's Treasure Coast. Police say a Baker Act patient punched the victim in the back of the neck while at the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Behavioral Health Center in Vero Beach on Monday. Twenty-year-old Bryan Sanchez is accused of attacking the nurse because he needed water. He is currently being held without bond. The incident comes just over a week after a Palm Beach County nurse was severely beaten by a Baker Act patient at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital.
Orlando State Rep. Holds Immigration Roundtable
(Orlando, FL) -- An Orlando lawmaker wants immigrants to be aware of their rights. District 44 Democratic State Rep. Rita Harris held a roundtable discussion yesterday on the impact of new immigration policies. She says she wants people to understand what the laws are or what they can or cannot do. Her advice is to carry multiple forms of ID and have a plan in case of emergency. An official at the Orlando Consulate of Mexico says a sense of community can also come in handy. Technical Secretary Alberto Ponce tells Spectrum News 13 knowing you're not alone and you have others who want to help is sometimes enough to feel you'll be alright.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Discusses Immigration Enforcement
(Miami, FL) -- Miami-Dade's sheriff doesn't have a lot of answers for immigrants worried about new state and federal policies. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz was in Richmond Heights last night to discuss how her office will work with ICE. Cordero-Stutz says the federal government hasn't given her a lot of details on how this partnership will work. She says, though, "if you are a criminal in this country who is actively committing crimes, you will be arrested," and "we are going to be enforcing the laws."
Lost Dog From Miami-Dade County Found In Texas
(Hialeah, FL) -- If dogs could talk, this one from Miami-Dade County would have quite the story to tell. Hialeah's Ines Borroto lost her dog, Mia, almost three months ago. Recently, the 13-year-old Shih Tzu was found over 12-hundred miles away in Texas. Borroto got a call from a shelter there that Mia was found wandering alone. There's no word on how Mia wound up there, but a reunion is in the works. Borroto tells Local 10 News she has missed Mia and her craziness.
