Milton Expected To Make Landfall Tonight

(Ruskin, FL) -- Hurricane Milton could be the strongest we have seen in a century. The National Weather Service says Milton will make landfall tonight. It's expected to bring life-threatening and potentially catastrophic storm surge to West-Central Florida and parts of Southwest Florida. Storm surge could peak at 15 feet. Pinellas County Emergency Management Director Cathie Perkins says that is unimaginable and not survivable. We could get a foot of rain, and the NWS says winds will be destructive. Perkins says the wind will be much stronger than Hurricane Helene. 

Longtime Residents Evacuating Ahead Of Milton

(Wesley Chapel, FL)-- Those who have stayed to ride out other storms aren't taking chances with Hurricane Milton. Roads were packed with traffic yesterday as residents look to get away from the storm. Manatee County's Rosemarie Tobin was heading to Columbia County in northeast Florida. She says she has lived in her home for almost 20 years, and this is the first time she's evacuated. Tobin tells News Channel 8 she can't remember a storm forecast this bad, and this one scares her.        

National Guard Headed to Florida

(Charleston, WV)-- A team of 40 members from the West Virginia National Guard are headed to Florida today. Ten members are part of the Charleston-based 130th Airlift Wing and will be used in search and recovery of Hurricane Milton victims. Another 30 members are engineers, and their primary focus will be to assist with debris removal. The guard members will stage in northern Florida until they are dispatched to the areas with the highest need.

Youngkin Announces Support For FL Ahead Of Hurricane Milton

(Richmond, VA)-- Governor Glenn Youngkin says Virginia will be deploying resources to Florida to help with the response to Hurricane Milton. The governor said yesterday that the Virginia Helicopter Aquatic Rescue team will send a team to Tallahassee ahead of the storm. The group includes four National Guard members, three Chesterfield firefighters and a rescue helicopter. The governor said other resources were also being arranged.

Wichita Woman Accused Of Shooting Husband On Vacation

(Pensacola Beach, FL)-- A Wichita woman is accused of shooting her husband while on vacation in Florida. KAKE reports that 31-year-old Jacqueline King was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted homicide. She allegedly shot her husband at a Fairfield Inn in Pensacola Beach during a domestic related incident.

Vanderbilt Sells Goalpost Pieces For Profit Online

(Nashville, TN) --Fans are paying big money to own a piece of the goalpost that was torn down following Vanderbilt's win over ranked Alabama. University officials say the uprights and crossbar sections of the goalpost that were recovered from the Cumberland River were cut into small pieces and put up for sale on the Live Source app. Multiple eight-inch pieces sold for more than four-thousand dollars each and four-inch sections went for right around one-thousand.
