State Senate 'Ghost' Candidate Agrees To Fine

(Delray Beach, FL) -- A Palm Beach County man will pay a fine for running a ghost campaign for state senate. The Florida Commission on Ethics announced yesterday that Delray Beach's Alex Rodriguez has agreed to pay 20-thousand dollars for running in last year's Senate District 37 race. The 55-year-old admitted he was paid to run as a no-party candidate against Democratic incumbent Jose Javier Rodriguez and Republican Ileana Garcia. While Alex Rodriguez didn't actively campaign, someone spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on mailers supporting his candidacy, and he wound up getting over six thousand votes in a race Jose Javier Rodriguez lost by just 32 votes.

Kangaroo Stolen From KY Farm

(London, KY) -- Authorities are still on the lookout for a baby kangaroo stolen from a Kentucky animal farm. The manager of Hillview Stables says a ten-month-old kangaroo named Scooby Doo was taken from his stable early Sunday evening. Manager Angi Smith says they need to find Scooby because he drinks a special kind of kangaroo milk called Wombaroo milk, and if he isn't fed regularly he won't survive longer than a week. Smith says a 500-dollar reward is being offered for the kangaroo's safe return, with that amount going up to a thousand dollars for his safe return and information that leads to the arrest of whoever made off with Scooby. State troopers have been alerted.

Felony Charge Against PA Man Over Mountain Dew Payment Dropped

(Harrisburg, PA) -- A Pennsylvania man will no longer spend seven years behind bars for underpaying by less than 50-cents for a Mountain Dew. Joseph Sobolewski received a letter earlier this week notifying him of his dropped charges. However, his bond remains at 50-thousand dollars. Sobolewski was arrested back in August for placing two-dollars on a gas station counter outside Harrisburg, thinking his Mountain Dew only cost a dollar-50. It was actually two-dollars and 43-cents. That less than 50-cent difference was enough for gas station staff to call police. Due to Sobolewski's past record, he was arrested and it was classified as a third-degree felony. Sobolewski says he's grateful, but does feel he wasn't treated fairly due to his past record.
