Rocket Launch Set For This Morning

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- We could be in for a busy couple days on the Space Coast. SpaceX has a rocket launch planned for 10:22 this morning, and launch conditions are 60-percent Go. A Falcon 9 rocket will carry Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit as part of a plan to spread broadband internet around the world. United Launch Alliance is planning to launch a Delta Four Heavy rocket at 12:02 tomorrow morning, and SpaceX has another launch set for late tomorrow night. 

Trump To Hold Rally In Seminole County

(Sanford, FL) -- President Trump is coming back to Central Florida. The Trump campaign announced yesterday it will hold a rally Friday night at Orlando Sanford International Airport. It'll be his first visit to Seminole County in six months. 

Hillsborough County Reinforces Mask Mandate

(Tampa, FL) -- While the entire state is now in a new reopening phase, at least one thing remains the same in Tampa Bay. Hillsborough County announced yesterday that face masks are still required indoors, except in the home, and similar rules are in place in Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee counties. The governor announced Friday that fines imposed on those who violated mask mandates are suspended. USF Dr. Thomas Unnasch [[ YOU-nash ]] tells ABC Action News loosening mask requirements will lead to an exponential growth in cases. 

 Broward Superintendent Vows To Stick WIth Current Reopening Date

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- Broward's schools leader says he won't bow to pressure from the state. The Florida education commissioner last week informed Broward Superintendent Robert Runcie that schools must reopen no later than October Fifth. The Broward school board, though, voted earlier to start reopening schools on October 14th, and Runcie told Local 10 News yesterday the district is following the reopening plan already approved by the state. The state sent the same letter to school officials in Miami-Dade County, and it will be brought up at a school board meeting tomorrow. 

Weapons Drawn In St. Pete Protest

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Incidents caught on video have police investigating a protest in Pinellas County. St. Petersburg Police said yesterday that during a protest Saturday night on Beach Drive, someone can be seen on a social media video pulling a knife on a counter-protester, who then drew a gun. No one was hurt in that incident, but a woman says she was hurt when a counter-protester pushed her to the ground. She tells the Tampa Bay Times she was hospitalized with a concussion and plans to sue. 

NYU Professor Gives Lecture From Stuck Elevator

(New York, NY) -- An NYU professor is claiming victory over an elevator that tried to keep him from his students. On Wednesday, Jay Van Bavel was in a rush to get home and start his Intro To Psychology class via ZOOM. His building elevator had other plans. His 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son were also in the trapped elevator and watched as he carried on with the lecture without any notes or presentation. Van Bavel says in hindsight it may have been best to reschedule the class, but he didn't want to let his students down.
