Cocoa Beach Makes Masks Mandatory
(Cocoa Beach, FL) -- Another city in Brevard County is requiring masks. The Cocoa Beach City Commission voted yesterday to make masks mandatory in indoor locations open to the public. It takes effect at 8 o'clock this morning, but exceptions are allowed for children under two and those with health issues. The vote came a day after Satellite Beach also made masks mandatory.
BofA Closing Dozens Of Central Florida Branches
(Orlando, FL) -- Bank of America's recent closures will affect customers at dozens of locations in Central Florida. The bank recently announced it was temporarily closing 60 branches across the region, including 15 in Orlando. The company tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal those branches were chosen because either foot traffic was low or they lacked sufficient staffing.
Miami-Dade Delays Business Closures Until Tomorrow
(Miami, FL) -- Businesses facing another shutdown in Miami-Dade County are getting a bit of a reprieve. Closures that were supposed to go into effect today for restaurants, gyms and short-term rentals were delayed yesterday until tomorrow. Mayor Carlos Gimenez also announced fitness centers can stay open as long as customers wear masks, and short-term rentals can still operate but only on a monthly basis. Restaurants may not have indoor seating, but they can serve a limited number of people outside and offer takeout and delivery.
HillsCo Commissioner Urges DeSantis To 'Be A Leader'
(Tampa, FL) -- A Hillsborough County official is challenging the governor to do more to stop the coronavirus. County Commission Chairman Les Miller said yesterday he wants Governor Ron DeSantis to announce statewide initiatives to address the rising number of COVID-19 cases. He says, instead of relying on local officials to implement policies, county by county, DeSantis needs to be a leader. Miller tells 10News DeSantis needs to do something and make it right to save lives.
Daily Testing Required At Republican National Convention
(Jacksonville, FL) -- Those attending the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville will be tested daily for the coronavirus. In a memo sent by the host committee spokeswoman Erin Isaac, all attendees will be temperature checked and receive a COVID-19 test as they enter the convention site.
SeaWorld To Host Drive-In Movies
(Orlando, FL) -- SeaWorld will host what it calls a fun, nostalgic and magical event this weekend. The theme park announced yesterday it will show drive-in movies under the stars following a fireworks display you can enjoy from inside your car. Florida Keys Confirms Eleventh Case Of Dengue Fever
(Florida Keys, FL) -- Florida health officials are confirming another case of Dengue fever in the Florida Keys. They say the patient was infected by it locally and is expected to fully recover. Dengue fever is not contagious and is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Residents of the Keys should wear protective clothing, use bug spray and remove any container that collects water where mosquitoes could reproduce.
California Brewery Lends Patio To Neighboring Restaurant Amid COVID-19 Restrictions
(San Diego, CA) -- A California brewery is lending some of its real estate to a neighboring restaurant. Breakfast Republic in San Diego does most of its business indoors, however, new COVID-19 restrictions ban inside service in restaurants. The eating establishment has a patio but doesn't seat as many customers. So their neighbor, Stone Brewing, decided to lend the eatery some of its patio to use. A member of the brewery said under the circumstances they had an area that wasn't being used that much, so it was a no-brainer to give them a hand.
Australian Trucker Fights Off Venomous Snake While Driving
(Australia) -- An Australian trucker is okay after fighting with a deadly snake on a busy highway. Police in Queensland say they stopped the 27-year-old for speeding, but when they approached, he informed them that he just survived an animal attack. The trucker explained that while driving, an eastern brown snake appeared and began to wrap itself around him, forcing the man to use his seatbelt and a knife to fend it off. The reptile, which is the second deadliest in the world among land snakes, bit the chair between his legs several times before cops pulled the truck over. Cab footage from the truck showed the entire ordeal. He managed to avoid getting bitten, but there's no word on what happened to the snake.
