Broward Teen Escapes Abduction Attempt
(Hollywood, FL) -- A Broward County teenager has a warning for others after a scary incident. Nineteen-year-old Kaitlin Duffy was jogging yesterday afternoon in Hollywood on North 14th Ave, and she says a man in a blue four-door Chevy offered her a ride. She said no, but she says he got out of the car and ran after her. She was able to outrun him and make it home safe, but she tells Local 10 News if he was just a little bit faster, something bad could have happened.
Rockledge Nurses Return From Massachusetts Hospital
(Rockledge, FL) -- Some nurses from Brevard County are back from a COVID-19 hotspot, but the trauma of what they experienced is still with them. Fifteen nurses from Rockledge Regional Medical Center spent over a month working at a Massachusetts hospital where all the patients had the coronavirus. The last of those nurses returned this week, and they have been debriefed to help them cope with what they saw. The hospital official who debriefed them tells Florida Today they're trying to deal with the sheer volume of death that surrounded them.
Miami Reopening Today
(Miami, FL) -- The city hardest hit by the coronavirus in Florida is starting to return to normal. Miami is allowing some businesses and parks to reopen today with restrictions. Mayor Francis Suarez has warned, though, that if people don't follow social distancing guidelines, further reopening plans may be abandoned. Miami has over 97-hundred COVID-19 cases, which is more than any other city in the state.
State Sen. Rodriguez Wants Inquiry Into State Official's Firing
(Tallahassee, FL) -- A local politician wants to get to the bottom of why a state employee involved in reporting coronavirus data was fired. Miami-Dade State Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez said yesterday he sent a letter to the governor demanding a full and immediate investigation into the firing of Rebekah Jones. She ran the state's online dashboard that records all coronavirus cases and deaths, and she claims she was fired because she refused to censor the data, but the governor denies that. Rodriguez says during our economic reopening, the trust of public decision-makers cannot be compromised.
Disney Springs Reopens Today
(Orlando, FL) -- Disney takes a step toward reopening today. Disney Springs is set to open at 10:00 this morning, but not every business in the shopping and entertainment center will be open. Guests and cast members must wear masks, and anyone entering the facility will have their temperature taken. There's no word on when Disney theme parks will reopen.
Family Finds Almost One-Million Dollars Cash On Road
(Caroline County, VA) -- Anyone missing a bag of money? A Virginia woman was driving with her family when she accidently hit what she thought was a bag a trash on the street. Afterword she and her family picked up the bag and another one nearby to clear the area when they realized the bags were filled with almost one-million dollars in cash. The woman called police who say the bags were from the postal service and the money might have been going to a bank.
Robot Hands Out Diplomas At High School Graduation Ceremony In Hawaii
(Honolulu, HI) -- In a time where human contact is limited, one high school in Honolulu called in a mechanical sub to help with graduation ceremonies. Instead of Assets High's Head of School handing out diplomas like usual over the weekend, it was a robot. The robotics class programmed the bot to pick up diplomas, drive over to students and hand them out. The robotics teacher used a controller so everyone could keep a safe social distance.
