Nelson, Wasserman Schultz Denied Entry To Homestead Compound  (Homestead, FL) -- The Trump administration is being accused of shameful behavior and a cover-up when it comes to a new immigration policy. Senator Bill Nelson and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said so yesterday after they were denied entry at a center housing children separated from their parents.

When the Democratic lawmakers showed up at the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children, they were told they needed to give two weeks notice of their visit. Wasserman Schultz tells 'CBS4 News' she won't give up easily, and she'll try to get into the shelter again on Monday.

Couple Charged With Killing Girl  (Lakeland, FL) -- A man and his girlfriend are facing charges for the death of the man's daughter in Polk County. Six-year-old Honesty Curry died last week after she was found unresponsive in the couple's Lakeland home two days earlier.

Deputies say first responders found the girl suffered from a crushed skull and brain swelling. The charges against her father, Larry Golden, and his girlfriend, Breonna Wren, include first-degree murder.

Man Charged With Sexual Battery On Unconscious Woman  (Titusville, FL) -- A homeless man is facing charges for sexually violating an unconscious woman in Brevard County. It happened this weekend in Titusville near a gas station on Cheney Highway.

A witness contacted police, who say the woman passed out after drinking with 47-year-old Zane Gray. Police tell "Florida Today" she doesn't remember what happened.

Collier County Approves New Textbooks After Parents Complain  (East Naples, FL) -- Some parents are having a say in the kind of textbooks children will read in Collier County. The county school board voted this week to adopt new science textbooks after parents complained the old ones were politically biased.

The complaints focused on how the books treated topics like climate change, evolution and population growth. The "Naples Daily News" reports one parent told the board the old books were a total indoctrination of liberal ideas.

Chick-Fil-A Worker Finds Customer's Lost Engagement Ring  (McDavid, FL) -- An Escambia County woman is thankful for the actions of a woman she calls her angel. McDavid's Chloe Leonard was eating at a Chick-fil-A recently when she realized she couldn't find her engagement ring. Employees helped her look for it, and as she was about to give up, a worker named Karen came through for her.

It turns out the ring was in the parking lot near Leonard's car, and Leonard tells NorthEscambia.com she's so grateful that the restaurant's employees would go out of their way for her.
