DeSantis: Gaza Refugees Not Wanted in Florida

WAUCHULA -- Governor Ron DeSantis says refugees from Gaza are not welcome in his state.

DeSantis took time out from signing a bill banning lab-grown meat to react to reports that the Biden administration is considering various options to allow in Gazans with immediate family members who are citizens or permanent residents.

The governor says bringing in Gazans is not in the national interest. He says it would exacerbate tensions in this country on college campuses and elsewhere. DeSantis says pro-Palestinian protesters are actually pro-Hamas, celebrating "people that cooked babies in ovens while they were killing the babies' mothers, executing elderly people." DeSantis says Gazan refugees would only bring their blood feuds to the U.S. He says the U.S. should bring in immigrants who want to assimilate.

In recent days, DeSantis has pointed with pride at state efforts to quash disruptive pro-Palestinian protests, which include arrests at the University of Florida, Florida State University and the University of South Florida. "Florida is not New York," he said to an audience of cattle farmers and FFA members.
