DeSantis Signs Bills Supporting At Hurricane Resilience Program

(Redington Shores, FL) -- More help is on the way for Floridians who need to prepare their homes for the upcoming hurricane season. Governor Ron DeSantis was in Pinellas County yesterday, where he signed a bill that supports the My Safe Florida Home program. The measure will expand the grant service to include storm mitigation projects for townhomes and condos. The repairs could also save homeowners money on their property insurance premiums. Residents who are low-income and over the age of 60 will have top priority.

Sterns Indicted For Murder In Madeline Soto's Death

(Kissimmee, FL)-- The main suspect in Madeline Soto's death in Osceola County is now formally charged with killing her. A grand jury yesterday indicted Stephen Sterns for first-degree murder. The 37-year-old was dating Soto's mother when the 13-year-old Soto was found dead last month. No cause of death was revealed, and there's no word on what evidence led investigators to Sterns. State Attorney Andrew Bain says Madeline deserves justice, and our office will do everything legally possible to ensure the defendant is held accountable for his actions.  

Man Killed By Police In Orlando

(Orlando, FL) -- A man is dead after he was shot by police officers in Orlando. It happened last night near South Orange Ave and South Lucerne Circle after a traffic stop. Police Chief Eric Smith says the car was pulled over because the license plate showed it was registered to a man wanted for attempted murder and aggravated stalking. Smith says the man got out of the car as officers approached and fired at least one round. One officer returned fire and hit the man. He has not been identified. The officer who shot him is now on administrative leave, and the FDLE is investigating.     

Elected Official Resigns After Child Porn Arrest In Polk County

(Lake Alfred, FL)-- An elected official in Polk County will no longer serve after he was arrested on child porn charges. Lake Alfred Seat Two City Commissioner Charles Lake resigned Tuesday after he was arrested last week for child porn possession. The 90-year-old allegedly had 300 child porn images on his computer and a flash drive. Investigators say some of the children in the images were as young as two. Lake's resignation took effect immediately. He's due in court next month.

Starliner Astronauts To Arrive At KSC Today

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- A long-delayed space mission marks a milestone today. Two astronauts in Boeing's Starliner test flight crew are due to arrive at Kennedy Space Center this afternoon. They'll prepare for their launch May 6th to the International Space Station. The test flight will take place after months of delays due to technical problems. They'll be the first humans to fly on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.    

Reggie Bush To Get 2005 Heisman Trophy Back

(Los Angeles, CA)-- Former USC running back Reggie Bush is getting his 2005 Heisman Trophy back. Bush's trophy was taken away in 2010 after the NCAA imposed sanctions on USC for infractions, including Bush receiving improper benefits. The Heisman Trust told ESPN the reinstatement of Bush's trophy comes at a time when college athletes are now allowed to profit from their name and likeness.
